Old Friends

song
I love this song. Much of the 1st leg of this journey is connecting with past close friends. I am a bit neglectful and rarely keep in regular contact with my friends, although I care for them deeply and think of them often. When an opportunity arises to see them in person, I general give them a last minute shout and see if they are around. With Lisa and Russ I gave them almost 24 hours notice (although truth be told I had suggested a month ago that I might be passing through) They modified their plans and hosted me graciously.

Lisa asked me 20 questions about my boys and a few regarding the separation. Lisa and I have known each other since 1985 when we went to the same Bible College. She is the only person that I know that can fully dance while driving in an automobile. She told me that she is getting older and may no longer be able to pull this off. I don't believe her, just play some classic 80's tunes and we will give it a test run.
Russ wanted to talk about motorcycles. I had just visited a mutual friend Erik and they were planning on doing the great divide trail between calgary and mexico on an enduro motorcycle. We ended up watching Mondo enduro, a video of 6 brits who crossed the world on 350 cc bikes. As I see this craziness a small seed may  have taken root ...

Seeing these friends was like a total flashback. Nothing had changed, except our kids were almost adults and we had much more grey hair. This trip is reminding me about things that are truly important in ones life ... friends and family.
